App of the Week (11/15-11/21): Picsel’s Smart Office

This week’s “App of the Week” honors go to an app that everyone can find a use for - Picsel’s Smart Office! If you are familiar with Apple’s iWork program for the Mac and iPad or Microsoft’s Office suite for smartphones, then you will be very familiar with Smart Office. Smart Office is a good app to have for those on-the-go editing jobs before a meeting or to view an important attachment via email. However, using a word processing program is a little hard when the size of your screen is less than 4″, that is true for any phone but it is still there for minor use and reading documents. Besides that, is Smart Office the Bada OS answer to Microsoft and Apple? Lets find out…

Smart Office will enable you to view and edit Office 2007 files such as docx, xlsx, pptx and will feature PDF support and an image viewer. As you can see in the screenshots below, the interface is very polished, clean, and intuitive. It looks very well-designed and not thrown together at the last minute. Sure the app is a bit pricey at around 8euros but it is well worth it for the features!

Features in Smart Office 1.2.2
- Ability to create a new document
- Use of undo / redo
- Multi touch enabled
- Selection and movement of images within word
- Updated UI for phone and tablet
- Improved user experience
- Accurate Page Layout
- Fast Document Navigation UI
- Rich Editor (change Fonts, Colours, Formatting)
- Scrapbook for Copy, Paste functionality for text and images
- Save in original format and 3D-Stereo support.

The application is a must for business users or students and will come in handy anywhere for quick editing. Using the application on the small screen of a phone might not be good for writing papers but it is good enough for writing short notes, creating outlines, or maybe drafting your next powerpoint presentation. Smart Office might not have the Apple of Microsoft name behind it, but it sure does not lose any features. All your basics and then some are present in this app!

Pros: great looking interface, intuitive, tons of features!

Cons: Pricey, big file size, a little hard to use for big projects on a smaller smartphone screen.

Overall, Badaforums rates it 4 out of 5 Stars!
