No Bada 2.0 for Wave 525 and 533!

Some bad news for Samsung Wave 525 and 533 owners. A little while back Samsung had announced that all its Wave devices running bada OS will be updated to bada 2.0 OS. But in a recent email sent to bada developers, Samsung has said that now Wave devices will be divided into two groups; ‘Wave (WQVGA)’ and ‘Wave (WQVGA) _1.1 only.’

The first group, Wave (WQVGA) will receive the much awaited bada 2.0 update supporting both 2.0 and 1.1 API. This includes the devices such as Wave 575, 578 and 723. On the other hand the second group includes Wave 525 and 533 and they will only support bada 1.1 API and not get the much awaited bada 2.0 update.

Not all Samsung Wave phones will get the bada 2.0 update. The two models that are not in the “lucky group” (of devices that will get the update) are Wave 525 and Wave 533, both of which are stuck on the version 1.1. However, not all is gloom and doom, with Korean giant preparing the so called “Value Pack” for these two devices.

And if you don’t know what Value Pack is all about, here’s what Samsung has to say about it:

“Samsung is offering “Value Pack” upgrade for devices that do not support bada 2.0 upgrade due to hardware limitations such as main chipset performance and available network speed. “Value Pack” is designed to offer the same bada 2.0 user experience and service as much as possible despite the hardware limitations.”

Finally, before I let you go I must add we’re not that surprised these two relatively old phones are stuck to the old version of bada — after all, there’s only so much Samsung can do to make things run smoothly on the old hardware…

Notification Bar Bug on Samsung Wave 525

Yesterday, one of our members just pointed out a bug in the notification bar on the Wave 525. Basically what happens is even though message lock is enabled and “Display the contents of the messages” is disabled, the notification bar still displays part of the messsage when it arrives. This is a pretty irritating bug I am sure especially if you are someone who cares about your privacy or who can see your messages. It seems like this person has done everything they can but the bug still appears.

What we would like to know is, is this a problem on all Wave series devices or is it strictly a problem for the Wave 525 series? Are you experiencing any problems? Anyone have a fix?

*UPDATE* It seems as if a few people have reported the bug on the Wave S8500 as well.

Messaging on the Samsung Wave 525 (and Bada)

Thinking about purchasing a Samsung Wave 525 (Wave 2)? If you are then I bet you are wondering about some of the messaging features the Wave 525 offers. In today’s world, it seems like most communication is now done via messaging whether it is MMS, SMS, or even email so features are important things to consider.

The most popular form of messaging is SMS text messaging. If you are like me and send 1,000′s of texts a month then of course features mean a lot and it is good to know that the Wave 525 delievers. Packing a 3.2″ touchscreen display, it is plenty big enough for on-screen typing however it still feels a little cramped when in portrait mode. The keyboard is your standard Samsung Bada keyboard. The keys are very well spaced and are big enough for thumb typing. SMS style is threaded (or chat style) which has become the norm in most phones these days.  Now, MMS has become a popular form of sharing pictures and videos with people. This phone is very capable in this feature. You can send and receive audio, video, and images. Overall, the SMS and MMS functionality on the Wave 525 is typical of what you are used to with Bada.

Now on to email, if you are one of those people who are always on the go and need to access your email from anywhere, then the Wave 525 is for you. On the Wave 525, you can compose emails, attach files, look up contacts, and receive emails. The phone does support PUSH email as well which is nice. This means that as soon as someone sends you an email, your phone will receieve it as soon as it arrives. This also saves a lot of battery life because without the phone constantly checking for new mail every 5 minutes no matter if you have an email or not, the phone will only sync when needed.

In terms of Instant Messaging, gone are the days where you had to be tied to a computer. With the Wave 525, you can get your IMs wherever it is you go. The IM client supports AIM & Google Talk currently with more services to be added in the future. The chat windows are threaded and are integrated right in your inbox so that provides easy access to your messages.
