Review: Samsung SBH-650 bluetooth handsfree/headset kit

One of our members “667-75″ has done a quick review of the Samsung SBH-650 bluetooth handsfree headset and I thought it would be a good thing to share with everyone!

Thought I’d share this with you, in case you’re interested in the purchase of accessories for your Wave. Yesterday I received my Samsung SBH-650 bluetooth handsfree/heaset kit. At 40£, it is certainly one of the best values for money accessory you can have if you’re looking for a wireless headset.

It looks really sleek, with a nice black, brushed aluminum feeling to it, light as can be. Obviously it is a stereo kit, with full Wave audio player compatibility: play/pause, previous/next track, fast forward/rewind, volume. The handsfree offers the possibility to pick/hang up, hold a call, voice dial, waiting call, microphone mute, etc.

Interesting thing, you can pair another bluetooth device at the same time (another media player or Computer, for instance) so you can actually listen to smth on the additional source while still being able to answer calls from your phone. Really practical when your music files aren’t on your phone or you’re watching a movie on a bluetooth-capable computer, for instance.

You can hook up any 3.5mm headset you wish to, which allows you to get rid of the mediocre one the Wave ships with. Sound quality is very good, surprisingly. It’s my first bluetooth kit but I have quite a bit of experience with UHF headphones (whose audio quality is often average) so I was a bit on the skeptic side. But once I got the whole thing connected (in a matter of seconds) I was quite stunned. I hooked up my big Seinheiser headphones and the sound was clear and relatively rich. A tad inconsistent in high pitches, but hey, I’m just being picky here. Please note however that the earphones that come with the kit are below average, but you can’t expect hi-fi for 40£. I was always afraid of signal loss using the bluetooth protocol (bad experiences years ago with what could only be Bluetooth v1.0), but the recent and frequent file transfers between my Mac and the Wave reassured me on that side. Transfer rates are consistent and reliable, and so is the connection quality with this kit, provided you remain within a 30-foot radius.
