Bada 1.2 feedback and experiences...(OFFICIAL THREAD)

Postby unwary » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:47 pm

Hi guys,

Just thought a seperate thread would be useful for those wondering about Bada 1.2. The other thread was more of an announcement thread. Here you can post what you've noticed is different, what's the same, and what you think can be improved on :wink

So, obviously swype (or trace) is probably the biggest feature. I was a bit sceptical when I saw youtube videos, but it turns out to be really really good! I wouldn't say quicker (yet) but it's definitely easier than aiming for the keys. Even if you're a bit out the phone has a pretty good idea of what you were trying to type.

Browser does seem a bit quicker and smoother, though not up to Iphone/Android smoothness yet. I'm not sure about flash 10 (maybe someone else can contribute). There is STILL no text reflow which was one of the biggest things I was hoping for. It already reflows on the e-mail so I don't see how this can be much harder?

Wifi signal strength indicator is nice, plus the menus seem a little different too. All in all it's a nice upgrade but more importantly it shows that Samsung haven't forgotten about is (hooray!) :heart

Reason: I edited the title and made this post a sticky...it is now an official findings thread!

Thanks for the feedback. Can you post some screenshots of the different UI elements you are mentioning?

I'll post some screens tomorrow if I get the chance...

Some other things I've noticed...

- I haven't had any memory issues at all. I haven't exactly taxed it with games and such though...
- There's an option to connect USB via "DRM mode" whatever that is!
- FOTA seems to be supported, or at least the framework is there (in the options menu)
- Separate tones for txt messages and e-mails are now supported
- There's no X button on the browser. You have to click the menu button now to exit. This helps with accidentally closing all the tabs, but a better option would be to remember them all.
- In the web browser, you can store bookmarks in folders now, and you have the option of storing them as a link in the main menu. However, instead of using the icon for the website as the icon in the menu, it uses a screenshot, which is both ugly and useless at identifying it!
- UI for the keyboard is much improved. Suggested words appear horizontally now, and you can scroll for more words by swiping left and right. The first word in the list is exactly what you typed (for words that won't be in the dictionary), but it does default to the most probable word.

All of those things you mention, apart from the keyboard stuff and 'x button', I already have on XXJH3.

The biggest improvement I see is the memory managment.. No errors so far, with online widgets running, after games, lots of internet browsing, radio, mp3 and so on no problem... ;)

Just 2 bugs I've noticed... After contacts are matched with the Facebook ones if you sync it doesn't change their display pitcures... And if you recive a message on facebook or an invite, the ''1'' that shows up on the corner of the facebook icon and the social hub icon never disapears... Any ideas...
