Samsung vs Apple verdict may influence Google & Tizen

We all have heard about the Samsung vs Apple lawsuit, we all have heard the outcome, we also all know that Samsung is a multi-OS company. Now, what we do not know is how the verdict will influence projects with Android and also the Tizen project. The relationship with Google and Samsung has to be cracking a bit with the verdict as Google recently said:

“The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims. Most of these don’t relate to the core Android operating system and several are re-examined by the U.S. Patent Office.”

The statement indicated that the U.S. software giant was drawing the line between itself and its major customer Samsung, despite the fact that some features Apple said Samsung’s wireless devices infringed are built into Android. They include features like pinching the screen or tapping to zoom.

With Google saying things like that – Samsung is poised now to move into the Tizen project harder than ever. Why should Samsung use someone else’s product to be successful when they themselves can create something with more potential? Samsung has the time, the money, and the drive to do just that. In-fact, Samsung has said it many times in the past that it does not want to count on Google for everything…

“Samsung has always chosen the multi-OS strategy, not betting entirely on the Android,” said a Samsung official.

Tizen, a new open-source software platform, is one that Samsung is building together with the Linux Foundation and Intel.

As the firm has been integrating its proprietary Bada platform with Tizen, Samsung plans to apply the new platform on smartphones, netbooks and smart televisions as early as 2013.

Samsung bada following proves the “little guy” still counts

Samsung has been in the news lately for all of the wrong reasons with there lawsuit against Apple. Sure there are mixed emotions when it comes to that lawsuit and the result that came from it will hurt the consumer. However, there seems to be a trend happening in the mobile industry lately and that is top-down development of hardware and software integration. If you are a loyal follower of this site then you have heard me mention it before. Honestly, I believe Samsung created bada not only to bring users a different choice but also to gain marketshare of the first-time smartphone buyers. While some may argue the success of this strategy I think it allowed Samsung to really get to know its audience on a more personal level. The bada following is not based around marketshare, numbers, specs, or dollar signs…it is about independence from the norm.

Some of you may wonder why I am writing this article but it has been weighing on my mind quite a bit since the lawsuit between Apple and Samsung started. Samsung is a major player in Android devices, Windows phone devices, and while it is a player in bada devices on a smaller scale…it offers a since of more personality and less of that corporate greed, numbers driven mentality which is welcome in today’s world. Samsung has proven that it can take an idea, mold it, spec it well OR spec it lightly, bring it to market, and it will still sell. With Android, I think everyone gets the feeling that Samsung takes an open OS and just pushes out device after device to bring up sales numbers. It is all about money. If you are a bada user then you have not seen a new phone in quite awhile however Samsung still supports it and has made a nice future for the OS by partnering with Tizen. Samsung knows its market well and while some may question the move of Samsung to still support a smaller scale OS…bada does keep gaining ground in its own target market which is important. A lot of people want a phone that works but also may have a few other smartphone features without feeling overwhelmed. That is exactly what bada delivers on. We live in a world dictated by corporate greed, specs pushed to the max, decisions based on dollar signs, and devices that seem cookie-cutter and not unique. The bada OS proves that the little guy still counts for something and that is something we should not lose focus over.

Android 4.0 Nightly Version released for Public

As you all might already know a developer called Mike Gapinski recently joined the badadroid project.

He cooked the Android 4.0 from AOSP and released a Developer Version few weeks ago. In the Developer Version,

Only basic process like Booting and Launchers were working. But few days ago, the developer announced a Public Release which had most of the features working. There is a Detailed Chart of the features working in his site. In the current build of the Public Release,  Most of the features are working lag-less. There is a video which i made of the features which are working in this current build.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyDpvD1hnng

In this build, The available ram is 85 Mb and the allocated RAM is 200+ mb. Apps like FlipBoard are working flawlessly but when tried to install Opera Mini and Temple Run it failed as the SD Card drivers are still not completely fixed. So large HD games cannot be installed currently. And the internel memory i.e for installing apps is only 80+mb. Camera is working be pictures cannot be captured because it need a external memory.

Since the current build is installed in the moviNAND it causes lot of errors in bada. When booted bada after using Android it corrupted all the apps and games in Memory Card. And there is no fix for it. The Project is still not over, we should be expecting new features and fixes in the near future.
