How does bada work?

As bada is a new operating system, this question is asked by many since the bada launch. Many have the doubt about the working of bada. Besides if you are a bada developer it is most important to know the basic structure and working of bada.

So how does bada work? I’ll make it simple. To understand bada we need to know the layers the make bada working. Samsung bada is made of 4 layers. A kernel layer, a device layer, a service layer and a framework layer.

 Kernel Layer
Kernel is the backbone of the operating system. A kernel connects the application software to the hardware of a computer. The kernel of bada is based on real time OS or Linux kernel. The kernel is determined by the hardware configuration of the device.

 Device Layer
The device layer of bada handles the UI(user interface) of the device. The unique UI of bada is made up of this device layer. It manages security, graphics, telephony, multimedia of the device using bada.

 Service Layer
Service layer makes it possible to run applications on bada. It handles messaging, contact management, web service etc. It is an integral part of bada.

  Framework Layer
Framework of bada can export standard open API’s ( Application Programming Interface) in C++. Basically it means with this layer you can create innovative applications on bada platform. This layer enables bada to grow continuously.

So that’s it. These four layers help bada to work properly. Any malfunction in any layer can cause problems.  You can also read What’s new in bada- bada features.  Hope you have understood the basics of bada.

Why did Samsung Create Bada?

Android, Symbian, Windows mobile, iPhone,.. there are already many established mobile operating systems. Then why would Samsung take the risk of introducing a new OS. Even Samsung is using Android and Windows mobile. Besides being a new OS, it takes time for bada to gain trust.

To understand this action by Samsung, we must be aware of the motto of Samsung bada. It is “Smart phones for everyone”. According to Samsung, bada is not released just to compete with other players of mobile OS market. It is also to provide unique user experience to Samsung customers. Samsung has already announced that 33% of its market will be shared by bada phones. Moreover, bada being an open platform, provides developers with with a larger window to present their skills.

Among the Samsung’s 200 million mobile phones sold in 2009, 40 million are full touch screen mobiles. as you can see, Samsung’s touch screen smart phones have already come a long way. As Samsung professedly for a smartphone platform for mass customers, it will further enhance the sales. In 2010 bada will be applied to significant portion of Samsung’s touch mobile handsets.
With the new bada, Samsung promises new UI that is unique. It is made possible by Samsung’s TouchWiz technology. Samsung bada also contains features like flash control, motion sensing, vibration control and even face detection. How cool is that? Dr Hosoo Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Media Solution Center at Samsung said, ” In providing Samsung bada, I believe that Samsung will become true leader in the mobile industry.” Lets too hope that Samsung create magic in mobile industry.

What’s new in bada – bada features

Being unique is nowadays a key requirement to win a market. This exactly why Samsung created bada with a lot of unique features. The user demands more in their devices than just being new. So Samsung engineers have worked a lot in making not only unique but also useful.
The key features of bada OS are its user-interface (UI), service oriented platform and being open and configurable. Now lets look into each of the features. These features are the distinctive features of bada.

User Interface
The UI of bada is based on Samsung’s signature TouchWiz user interface. It provides an easy and simple UI with high efficiency. Samsung bada also provides flash control, web control, motion sensing, fine tuned vibration and face detection!
Developers of bada can develop applications and games that make use of its capabilities. The UI of bada is custamizable and thus provides better user experience.

Service Oriented Platform
The Samsung build bada keeping in mind that it has to be service oriented platform. So what does Samsung mean by service oriented? It means bada focuses on its services than its applications. Developers are free from having to learn how to bind services with their applications in service specific manner. Samsung bada differentiates its position by supporting various service centric features such as social networking, device synchronization, content management, location-based services and commercial services all supported by back-end bada servers. Thus it is also beneficial to bada developers too. In short bada is ready to meet all your requirement.

Open and Configurable
The reason to say that bada is open and configurable is that bada enables developers to take full advantage of mobile device capabilities to create compelling applications with ease. Thus there is always a path to improve bada. The applications can use device functions to make phone calls, send messages, share information such as personal profiles, social relations, schedules. The flexibility of bada platform makes it applicable to a wide range of devices than any other mobile operating system.
